Beachwood Community Services is proud to offer a variety of fitness classes and opportunities for all ages. The new Fitness Park is open year-round in City Park East making exercise accessible to everyone at no cost. Want something more structured? Jump into one of our classes. Programs are offered on a regular basis allowing you to pick and choose a class without the ongoing membership fees at a traditional gym. It's a great way to simply get started or supplement your existing exercise routine.

Adult Programming
Tai Chi Chuan for Adults
Instructor: Jennifer Stepien
Slow exercise that develops and relaxes the whole body, improving balance and building core muscle strength. Suitable for all ages from teen to senior adult. Wear loose clothing and tennis shoes.

Tai Chi Chuan for Intermediate Adults
Instructor: Jennifer Stepien
Fine tune Tai Chi skills while gaining strength & balance. Practice all four sets learned in Tai Chi Chuan together, or for one who would like to experience the traditional 108-step form all at once. Concentrate on ‘Qigong’ or healing exercises, and get exposure to other internal martial arts. Wear loose clothing and tennis shoes.

Barre FX is a fun innovative way to work out. This comprehensive total-body workout incorporates major muscle groups in a unique way that reshapes the whole body. These exercises challenge the body’s strength, endurance and increases overall fitness. Our fat burning format will lift your derriere, trim hips, tone legs, flatten abs, shape arms, and elongate the appearance of your body in record-breaking time. Barre FX also incorporates light dumbbells for a short segment of the workout as well as intense mat work. Appropriate for all fitness levels.

Your Dog is Your Workout Partner
Instructor: Heidi Braun
Thank Dog Boot Camp provides the opportunity for dogs and their people to exercise and work on obedience training at the same time. Perfect for all fitness levels. Each hour long class combines cardio drills and weight training while integrating obedience commands. Classes are taught by a certified personal trainer and canine obedience instructor. Bring an exercise mat, a set of weights, training collar (gentle leaders prohibited) and a standard 6 ft. leash. Class limit 12.

Youth Programming
Kids Warrior Yoga
Instructor: Carolyn Miller, M.Ed, RYT-200
Yoga for school age children provides a fun and engaging way for children to practice mindfulness, body awareness, balance, strength and flexibility in a non-competitive and compassionate environment. Traditional yoga poses will be explored using child friendly language, games and traditional yoga sequencing. In addition, yoga provides children with increased focus, confidence and the ability to work through everyday frustrations in a calm manner.

Tai Chi for Senior Adults

Learn to relax while moving through slow and deliberate exercises that will improve core strength to give you an overall feeling of wellbeing. Great for seniors, persons with limited mobility, and anyone curious to know what Tai Chi is all about. Designed to improve strength, balance and breathing; we’ll do both seated and standing moves.

Fun With Fitness For Senior Adults
Instructor: Beth Parnim
A senior class perfect for all levels of fitness. This fun class includes low impact aerobics, chair exercises, hand held weights, and stretching exercise from head to toe using bands, balls and body movement while listening to a variety of genres of music. Please bring your own 2 – 3 lb. hand-held weights. Everyone works at their own level and you will meet great people from the Beachwood area. Come and give it a try for free!

SilverSneakers Classic *

Tim Carney will guide you through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscle strength, range of movement and activities of daily living. Tim Carney, instructor, will move you through a series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered for a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility and balance. Class is suitable for nearly every fitness level.

SilverSneakers’ mission is to make fitness more fun and accessible to boomers age 65 and beyond. If you qualify, these programs are at no-cost. Everyone is welcome. To see if you qualify, go to: www.silversneakers.com. If not, send payment along with the enrollment form. Classes run continuously throughout the year.
Every participant (regardless of insurance status) must register for classes and will receive a membership card with a QR code, similar to a barcode in a store. Your card is scanned every time you participate in a SilverSneakers class. The classes are FREE for SilverSneakers Members (Participants covered by insurance). Participants not covered by insurance, purchase a punch card for $40, good for 10 classes (AKA scans) through the Beachwood Community Services Office. Call Beachwood Community Services at 216-292-1911 to register for a membership card.

Everything at the free outdoor Fitness Park works off of your body weight. You can design a high intensity circuit routine or start with the basics on one of our machines. Download the Fitness Court app for Apple or Android for exercise ideas.
