COUNCIL AGENDA UPCOMING NEWS
In addition to regular business, the following items will be before City Council for consideration this evening:
Public Works Department – Ordinance #2022-156
Last year the City of Beachwood made the decision to bring the Tree Planting Program in-house to save money and better serve our residents. Planting trees in-house gives the City complete control over the entire process. We are able to select the trees from the nursery, we control their delivery and movement, and plant and maintain (follow up care as necessary) them to increase the survival rate. Last year, under this new program, we only lost about 2% of the trees planted. In past years, we lost as much at 20-30% of the trees selected and planted by our contractor. Because of the success of this program, our Public Works Director is requesting $40,000.00 to purchase trees for planting throughout the community in 2023.
Fire Department - Ordinance 2022-157
Council recently passed legislation to accept grant monies from FEMA for the 2022 Assistance to Firefighters Grant. We intend to utilize this grant to reimburse the purchase costs of custom breathing air compressors and a fill station for the City of Beachwood Fire Department. The project estimate is $58,496.00 and the equipment will be purchased through the National Purchasing Partners intergovernmental cooperative. The City’s total cost will be $3,257.91.
