Beachwood Boredom-Busters: New Year Edition (1/7/2020)

THURSDAY, January 9
11:45 AM – 1:30 PM: Start 2020 on the right foot with the Beachwood Chamber Women's Connection! Meet at Lifetime Fitness (3850 Richmond Rd.) for tour of the facility and the opportunity to meet trainers and the staff dietitian. Kenny Winston, owner of Combination Challenge of Beachwood, will then present inspirational tips about goal setting. Free with registration

7:00 – 9:00 PM: Think your brain is filled with useless knowledge and facts? Put it to work during Trivia Night at BOMBA Tacos and Rum (2101 Richmond Rd.) and enjoy the benefits! Take part in Session 1 from 7:00 - 8:00 PM or Session 2 from 8:00 - 9:00 PM. Prizes will be awarded for 1st-3rd place teams.

FRIDAY, January 10
4:00 – 7:00 PM: Furniture feeling a little shabby after all those holiday get-togethers? The Gathering Place Warehouse home furnishings sale (4911 Commerce Parkway, Warrensville Heights) has so much merchandise, they’ve added another day! Shop today, Saturday (9:00 AM – 1:00 PM) and Sunday (9:00 AM – 1:00 PM). Cash or credit card only. Check out some of the merchandise online.  

SATURDAY, January 11
Call now to enroll for a tour of The Sculpture Center (1834 East 123rd Street, Cleveland) that will be held today at 11:00 AM. Enjoy a tour of Crafting Democracy: Fiber Arts and Activism, guided by the Center's Executive Director Grace Chin. Crafting Democracy demonstrates how craft can be used to give voice to people who seek an active role in democracy. Fee: $10/BAC members, $15/non-members. To register, please call 216.595.3400 

7:30 PM: Jeff Blanchard has been described as one of the funniest comics in Cleveland. See for yourself at Bogey’s Comedy Club at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Cleveland Beachwood (3775 Park East Dr.). Tickets are available online

SUNDAY, January 12
1:30 – 3:00 PM: Want to understand Ohio government? Want to impact your state legislators? Attend a FREE “How Things Work at the Ohio Statehouse” training at the Beachwood branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library. This presentation will teach you how to find/contact your representatives, testify in committee, impact legislation, and understand policy. Register online for this free event

LOOKING AHEAD
Get tickets now for the one-woman theatrical performance: Deb Filler’s “I Did it My Way in Yiddish (In English).” This event will take place at 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 15 at the Mandel Jewish Community Center (26001 South Woodland Rd.) and is presented by Interplay Jewish Theatre, The Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, and the Mandel JCC. 

On January 20, the Maltz Museum will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. day. The museum will be free and open to the public all day. Crafts and activities for the whole family will be available. See more information at their website

Also on January 20, learn how setting intention at the start of the day not only changes brain activity but also creates the day that you want. The “Intention and the Brain” event will be led by Dawn Maze-Molina, M.Ed. LPC, at the Beachwood library from 2:00 – 3:00 PM. Register now for this free program
