Happy Father’s Day weekend to you and yours! Let’s start with some good news before delving into this week’s upcoming events…

“There’s more optimism and excitement in the research community today toward Alzheimer’s disease than ever before,” said Keith Fargo, national director of scientific programs and outreach at the Alzheimer’s Association. If you didn’t get your kids into a summer-camp program and are now bemoaning that fact, call or text the 2 Tone Boxing Club at 216-600-0688. Located at 23307 Commerce Park, their day camps will help your child learn not only boxing, but discipline and self-reliance. (They are also a Rock Steady Boxing affiliate, which helps people with Parkinson’s Disease control symptoms and slow its progression.)

JOIN THE UPPERCLASSMEN on Thursday, July 18 for a day trip to the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair & enjoy work from over 1,000 artists and also spectacular street performers. This trip is only $52 residents/$55 non-residents and the deadline to sign up is this Monday; if you want to take a great trip, hop on board today! 

Saturday, June 15
The Beachwood Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library will show you how to borrow free eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and more with Drop In & Download. Bring your device and passwords and say bye-bye to pesky late fees. Registration is not required. Then, stay for the American Red Cross blood drive – make an appointment by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767).

Sunday, June 16

The Maltz Museum is celebrating Father’s Day with a special $5 all day general admission (free admission for members & kids under age 5) plus two viewings of  the HBO documentary “A Family is A Family is A Family,” about the many kinds of people and relationships that make up loving families. The film is free with admission but online pre-registration is required.

Wednesday, June 19 Job Fair at the DoubleTree by Hilton Beachwood: 3663 Park East Drive. Meet one-on-one with recruiters & hiring managers who are now hiring for immediate openings. Available positions range from entry level to management, in multiple industries. Free admission and parking. Pre-register online to attend.

Thursday, June 20

Let Food Be Thy Medicine with nutritionist Colleen Grossner, MS, RD, LD. Learn about the benefits of a plant-based, whole-foods diet. A great program  (7:00 - 8:00 PM) for people seeking a healthier lifestyle and also plant-based eaters looking for new ideas! Registration preferred. 10:00 – 11:00 AM: Learn about The Best Medicine (Laughter and the Brain) with Ted Smith at the Menorah Park Center 4 Brain Health. This is Day 1 of a two-part program (Day 2 is June 28, same time). RSVP to Kathy at Free with RSVP!

Siegal Lifelong Learning hosts its monthly Eastside Conversations luncheon program today (June 21) at 25700 Science Park Dr., Suite 100 Beachwood, OH 44122. Michael P. Scharf, Dean of the CWRU Law School and the Joseph C. Hostetler – BakerHostetler Professor of Law will speak on the “Syrian Use of Chemical Weapons and the Changing Law of Humanitarian Intervention.” Call 216-368-2091 to register. SAFETY TOWN SEEKS VOLUNTEERS: If you have a child entering 6th through 12th grade who is interested in a valuable volunteer experience, have them complete a Safety Town volunteer application at the Community Services Dept., City Hall, 25325 Fairmount Blvd. Safety Town will be held July 29 – Aug. 2 at the Fairmount Early Childhood Education Center.
