Have you seen the trees wrapped in blue outside the Beachwood Police Station and City Hall – are you wondering what it’s all about?
We wrapped our trees in blue as a small way to help bring attention to National Peace Officers Memorial Day – May 15th - which pays tribute to the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, and to voice our appreciation for all those who currently serve on the front lines of the battle against crimes.
The tradition of celebrating National Peace Officers Day started in 1962, when President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day each year and the calendar week of each year during which May15th occurs as Police Week. Our flags will also be lowered to Half-Staff on Tuesday, May 15th in honor of National Peace Officers Memorial Day.
As Mayor, I am proud of our officers and all they do to keep Beachwood safe and I am honored to pay tribute to them and to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
