Our vibrant and dedicated senior community is relentless in their pursuit of personal enrichment, learning and growth. This afternoon, I was invigorated watching more than twenty older adults begin their training in the 2017 Senior Police Academy with Beachwood Police Department.

This year’s class has committed to partake in a two-month program that focuses on crime prevention, CPR, self-defense, personal safety and more. Many of the participants are graduates of the program, but continue to come back annually as a refresher and to learn the latest in safety.

Beachwood Police Chief Gary Haba kicked off this year’s training with an opening presentation.  Since the Senior Police Academy started in 1996, Beachwood Police Department has worked diligently to ensure the program is educational, resourceful and enjoyable. This year, the program will have some new topics and 15 presenters.

In addition to working with our seniors, the Beachwood Police Department is preparing to welcome dozens of incoming kindergartners to Safety Town next week.  The 9-day program teaches young ones about personal and pedestrian safety practices.  Safety Town will be held at Fairmount Elementary July 25th through August 4th.  For more details or to register, visit beachwooohio.com.
