Monday’s Council meeting marked the final meeting for three longstanding councilmen— Mark Mintz, Fred Goodman and Mark Wachter. The evening included numerous tributes and a brief reception in the city hall lobby.
Mintz, Goodman and Wachter received steady accolades throughout the evening for serving during a period when Beachwood continued its reputation for providing superb municipal services while also maintaining very stable finances.
Collectively Councilmen Mintz, Goodman and Wachter have more than 50 years of municipal service invested with the City of Beachwood. During their time, council was instrumental with the development of the Harvard Road exit ramp on I-271 that opened up the south end of Beachwood to development. They were a helpful partner in achieving Beachwood’s very high municipal bond rating – indicative of the city’s sound fiscal policies and which results in lower costs when the city sells bonds. And the councilmen were also involved in attracting significant developments to the Chagrin Highlands area of the city. Undoubtedly, they will be missed.
I have gotten to know these men very well through years of work together. They care for this community dearly, and undoubtedly, they will be missed.
Councilmen Marty Horwitz, Mel Jacobs, James Pasch and Alec Isaacson will retain their seats on council as three new faces join them in 2016. In January, we are excited to officially welcome newly elected council members Justin Berns, Barbara Bellin Janovitz and Brian Linick.
We look forward to the next chapter and continuing to work with council to serve the Beachwood residents.
