GolfOur community received some very exciting news this week. The PGA TOUR and RPM International announced that approximately 130 professional golfers will come to Beachwood’s Canterbury Golf Club in September 2016 for a four-day tournament dubbed The DAP Championship (DAP is part of RPM’s family of brands).

This event will be the first of four Web.com Tour Finals’ events that determines which 50 players earn PGA Tour Cards. In other words, it’s a pretty big deal.

We are so proud of the folks at Canterbury, who have hosted 13 Major Championships to date. Their 18-hole legacy course was designed by renowned English architect Herbert Strong in 1922 and has helped the Club secure impressive tourneys over the years. The course has hosted all five of the men's Major Championships that rotate sites: The US Open, PGA Championship, US Amateur, Sr. US Open and Sr. PGA Championship.

Canterbury has perennially been ranked among the top 100 golf courses in the United States. Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus are among the long list of pro golfers who’ve played the course.

Beginning September 8, 2016, more names will be added to that impressive list.  Pro golfers who competed in the 2015 Web.com Tour Finals included Lucas Glover, Jonathan Byrd, Stuart Appleby, Tommy Gainey, Robert Garrigus and Kyle Stanley.

September 8-11, 2016 will be a special time in Beachwood. Our community will be in the national spotlight as the Golf Channel televises the tournament throughout the United States. The event will also have the potential to reach an additional 93 million homes via the PGA TOUR’s international broadcasting operation.

Local children will also benefit, as the Lebron James Family Foundation was named the beneficiary. This foundation works to positively affect the lives of children and young adults through education and co-curricular educational initiatives.

Please join me in celebrating this tremendous news for Canterbury and Beachwood. We are so proud to welcome the DAP Championship. If you’d like to learn more,  please visit the tournament website at www.dapchampionship.com.
