This Sunday, we celebrate a special day— a day to honor the men and women who have fought for our country and our freedom. All of us at the City of Beachwood extend our deepest gratitude to those who have sacrificed and served for us.
In Beachwood, we have made a tradition to honor our veterans with a special ceremony at Beachwood Cemetery featuring dignitaries, local veterans, a presentation of the colors and guided tours. Beachwood Cemetery is the final resting place of more than 40 soldiers. This special burial ground dates back to the early 19th century. Veterans of seven wars are buried there, starting with the Revolutionary War.
I hope you will join the City and the Beachwood Historical Society on Veterans Day this Sunday, November 8 at 11 a.m. for this moving tribute. Beachwood Cemetery is located at the corner of Green and Halburton roads, adjacent to the Canterbury Golf Club. The event is free and open to the community.
The U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs offers some history on Veteran’s Day. You can read more here: http://www.va.gov/opa/vetsday/vetdayhistory.asp.
I hope to see you this Sunday.
