The Green Dream Eco-Friendly Showcase was created in 2007 by the Beachwood High School Marketing Education/Junior Achievement class. Twenty students set out to create a public venue where businesses and organizations could show how easy it was to "Go Green". In its first year, The Green Dream attracted over 70 businesses and 2,200 attendees. Now recognized as Ohio's largest eco-friendly showcase, it continues to grow and inspire people throughout the world.
Beachwood Marketing Education/Junior Achievement is lead by Mr. Greg Perry and is part of Mayfield Excel TECC. Using the Junior Achievement Company Program, the students operate The Green Dream as an actual business. Business Consultant, Karen Carmen from the City of Beachwood, continues to work each year with the marketing students as they develop The Green Dream Eco-Friendly Showcase.
Through strategic school-business partnerships and with the proceeds from The Green Dream, the students have built "The Ultimate Green Classroom" to serve as a model for green schools, businesses, and homes. From the flooring and the cabinets to the full kitchen and board roomstyle furniture, everything exhibits eco-friendly and energy-efficient attributes.
Green Dream teacher, Mr. Greg Perry and his students have been given the Heart of Green Award by the Hearst Corporation. In addition, this remarkable class won the North American Junior Achievement Completion in 2010 after competing with other Junior Achievement classes from all over North America.
