AT&T Offers Service to Beachwood

Under state law, AT&T or other video service providers have the right to use public right of way (tree lawns) to install equipment that will enable them to provide their services.

The City of Beachwood can not prevent installation of these boxes, although they do oversee installations for site lines and safety purposes. Like any other construction project, AT&T must follow guidelines that have been set by our engineer as well as our legal and building departments.

Residents within 500 feet of a proposed installation will be notified by AT&T. Also, prior to passage of a new state law last summer, municipalities had more control in overseeing prices set and services provided to customers through a franchise agreement. Now, franchise agreements are no longer required, providers will now be licensed by the state and with increased technology and competition, residents have increased options regarding service providers.

To date, utility boxes and concrete pads which are approximately 48" high, 50" wide and 26" deep have been installed in the following locations:

  • Belvoir Blvd. near Chagrin Blvd.
  • George Zeiger Drive near the entrance to The Village
  • Shakercrest Blvd. near Fairmount Blvd.
  • Deborah Drive near Fairmount Blvd.
  • Fernwood Road near Brentwood Road
  • Bryden Road near Richmond Road

Each box services between 200 and 300 homes. In time, it is projected that AT&T's services will be available to the entire community.
