Mission
The mission of the City of Beachwood Economic Development Department is the proactive pursuit of improving the economic base of the City, focusing on enhancing the tax base, increasing the number and quality of jobs available to local residents, improving the visual quality and enhancing the exposure and visibility of the City.
Overview
The Economic Development Department fulfills this mission primarily through the retention of existing businesses, attraction of new businesses and the facilitation of property development. Specific programs include: providing outreach and technical assistance to existing businesses; operation of the Beachwood Business Development Center, an incubator for local and international entrepreneurial businesses and those seeking to develop a presence in the northeast Ohio market; and conducting marketing, outreach and technical assistance to the development community.

Beachwood's office of the Cuyahoga County Small Business Development Center (SBDC) offers free technical assistance, counseling and assessment, in partnership with Cleveland State University's Nance College of Business Administration, the Ohio Department of Development and the U.S. small Business Administration. The Beachwood Business Development Center (BBDC) is a partnership
among the City of Beachwood, Cleveland State University's Nance College of Business Administration and the Beachwood business community. It promotes the growth of early stage businesses, or those looking to develop a Northeast Ohio presence, by providing space and an array of resource, support and business development services in its 11,000 square foot facility in the heart of the Chagrin Blvd. business corridor. - Developers Diversified Realty Corporation (2009): Added 140,000 square feet to its headquarters.
- New Construction
- University Hospital’s Ahuja Medical Center (2010): A state-of-the-art, 144-bed, seven-story facility that is 432,000 square feet, located on 53 acres at Richmond Road and Harvard.
- Renovation /New Occupancy
- Jewish Community Federation/Mandel Building (2010): $16 million project to move the Federation to Science Park Drive.
Cleveland State University Nance College of Business
Our partnership with CSU’s Nance College of Business provides even more beneficial resources to local companies.
CSU collaborates with the Beachwood Business Development Center (BBDC) and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to provide a multitude of services including:

Small Business Development Center (SBDC)
A new sub-center of the Cuyahoga County Small Business Development Center is located at the Beachwood Business Development Center offices.
The SBDC provides free, in-depth, quality consulting and training to local entrepreneurs and existing small companies in order to promote growth, expansion, innovation, increased productivity and improved management. This SBDC sub-center is a partnership among the U.S. Small Business Administration, Ohio Department of Development, Cleveland State University's Nance College of Business and the City of Beachwood. and offers:
- Business start-up information
- Assistance with business plans
- Business and financial assessments
- Loan packaging
- Information on Federal, State and local regulations and programs
- Assistance with international trade
- Referrals to experts
